I will try to hyper-link the texts, but you should also follow the Film-North and the Theatre w/Anatoly directories for specifics on film and stage techniques. See Glossary and Dictionary for terminology and abbriviations. I'll be adding tech terms for VTheatre.

Shooting Virtual Theatre

The Rules
There are a few rules for shooting VTheatre, which became obvious already:

First, one camera (master-shot) must stay on action (mise-en-scene in the live show, focal point).

Second, it doesn't go beyond MS.

Rule #3: no two motions -- primary or secondary motion only. Camera moves only if there is no primary motion.

#3A -- fast or slow pan, nothing in between.

#4 -- not cuts (switcher) when the shot is not ESTABLISHED. (all searching for the action must be left out). Do not try to get the shot on CU format, go for MS and then zoom.

#5 -- You are not a camera-person, but an author-cinematograher (director-story-teller): you have to have a NARRATIVE. You must TELL YOUR story taken from the material -- the show. (Film is the Super-Spectacle).

You have to go back to the PLAY -- the meeting place of the Camerawork and the Show is the script.

If you don't have the story to tell, the VFilm won't work.

Film and Theatre are antogonistic -- one is frozen in time and another is live; the Virtual Theatre combines both. You better know when is when...

Who is in charge? The CU camera!

How to coordinate? The Conceptualization! (long word). More important than ever!

... I don't know how many rules are there. If you don't understand "intellectual montage" principles -- read Eisenstein. Again... and again.

PS. The Age of Cinema is over. Film is only a tool for Virtual Live Theatre! (Somebody, please write a manifesto, I'm too old for this job).
