I feel guilty (and I should). No updates on RAT Project (1992-94). The pages I began (Tairov, Vakhtangov, for example) are not developed.
And the pages I must write (Levitin, Vasiliev...), are not written.
... Why?
I can't finish a decent page (chapter) on Brecht (director, theorist) vs. Brecht (playwright) and Epic Theatre ....
I even do not know if I can use the words "Russian," "American," "Theatre"....
...
I started RAT pages without a plan. I wanted to put out the arhive of my two years in Russia (1992-1994). There are several pages in Theatre Theory Directory, regarding Russia and Russian Theatre and some on Moscow and St.Petersburg in this directory. There are many Russia-related pages (historically): on Method Acting by Stanislavsky and Biomechanics by Meyerhold (Also, StageMatrix). Of course, there are Chekhov Pages in Script Analysis Directory and my production notes to The Inspector General by Gogol and very extensive directory The Three Sisters by Anton Chekhov.Some of my Soviet experience is still on my CV and there are some texts related to my possible visit to the Moscow Art Theatre School for their new MFA in directing. Plus, there is a new play I am working on (in Russian)...
Well, in Russia I had a plan for a guide to studio-theatres of St. Petersburg.... But most of them are gone.
I have a lot of documents on disks (some in Russian and some on the old floppies that no new computer can take). It will take many months of work to make the archives "presentable" -- and maybe this is a job for a scholar (or grad student), not me.
