What a surprise to learn that in Fairbanks, Alaska, Ethiopian images could be popular!
Mary & Child. Actually, the painting Anatoly did two years ago is Sheba and Menelik I. Solomon is on the left and on the right is a popular symbol in Ethiopian iconography; combination of Judaic and pagan mythology (sun was worshiped by Sabeans before Sheba's conversion to Judaism). The four heavenly beasts (donkey, lion, bird and snake) are the protectors (Solomon's beasts). The ring Sheba holds is the Solomon's ring, later he will recognize his son by this ring. Traditional painting on skin. You can buy at Markato under $1! Original and beautiful! I wish somebody would ship them to the West. Such a businees could be extremely profitable and will support Ethiopian artists. God knows they need it! This tradition of iconography must be surported and comercial venues are the way to do it.

The Lion of Judah image you see in the banner is a ring I have, I want a local artist in Fairbanks, city of gold, reproduce it, so I can offer it to you. Let me know if you think it's a good idea.
