My first show in Alaska: Turandot

(Act II, Scene V):

1st riddle:

What creature, though of common birth,
Rules his own realm and moves among
Us freely; who, though very young,
Is known to every man on earth.

No man can gain what he has got
He is unique in every act,
His way is wide. He is, in fact,
Here now, and yet you know him not.

[Answer: the sun]

2nd riddle:
There is a tree that you have seen
Of unknown height and breath untold,
It always seems both fresh and green
But is incalculably old.

Its leaves are white as ivory
And bright as the most radiant light.
But when the brightness fades we see
The undersides are black as night.

[Answer: the year]

3rd riddle:
There is a curious and ancient beast
Whose strength diminished as its size increased,
The beast is loved by some, by some despised,
But those who trust it often are surprised.

It nurses what it knows
And weakens as it grows,
Its own intestines are its only food;
It gorges on itself and is renewed.

[Answer: life]
