War tactics as METHOD (foundation) of governing in fascist states:
Kremlin cannot be analyzed by (normal) logic of economy -- any fascist state sooner or later runs into problems with economy. Russian problems are pale next to China mandarin "People's" Republic.
Too many non-economic factors are in the play -- mostly, non-economic. In some sense Russian economy doesn't exist as the Soviet "economy" before. Still is "political economy" (i.e. anti-economy).
Reforms -- not Putin but 1992 is the place to look for a wrong start (in agreement with you). Yeltsin is "reformed" communist who should be gone after 1993. [Too late to talk about it.]
PS. There are example of peaceful transition from fascism (Sapun, Korea, Chili), none of the size of RF. + Russia got herself a "wrong" dictator -- :)
Not the expirience in the Soviet Union, but my 24 years in America made me apolitical! *
