Your feedback as always welcome!
Would you believe it? Only a century ago I didn't have any FAQ pages! Or maybe it was a millenium.... Doen't matter! What questions? Nobody read my pages (including myself), nobody was asking. Peace.
Not anymore. So, in order to preserve (some) peace, I try to make everything self-serve (like Wall-Mart). You are on your own -- and you like it! A new dream? Maybe.
I spent a lot of time linking myself to myself, the external links is difficult to keep fresh. I builf service pages, like help and etc., but we have to keep the right perspective -- I have those pages for my classes, my writing, my web projects. It's only looks like business, because everything on the web is business, but I have no time to treat it as business. With fear I watch the numbers (traffic) growing...
I only hope that the links and pages will work by themselves.
8 ways to navigate & 5 ways to interact:
1. index pages -- top left
2. featured links -- right
3. hyperlinks within the text
4. my narrative -- "next" (at the bottom)
5. banners and images
6. search the site engine (right)
7. htmlgears
8. popup windows
1. guestbooks
2. htmlgears
3. my forums
4. online classes
5. email
Are you a webmaster? Do you know the danger of placing somebody's links on your pages? I'm closing many htmlgers you see on my pages, because this is a waste of time! First, I have to check each site submitted; second -- too many are placed in the wrong categories. Third, when you submit your URL, why not to write in my guestbook that you are placing links to my sites? This is not going to work this way, folks! I have enough problems with fixing my own links.
Maybe I am tired of web-building, but this "free for nothing" internet era perhaps should end. Like with the my email accounts; most of it is a trash! Free = responsibility. I have to close several my email addresses for the people, who are in my address book only! What a sad story! What's the point of having webmaster's link, if it's about to be abused?
Don't you understand what takes place? Don't you see what is ahead? The doors will be locked, my friends. The answering machines will screen the calls on the Internet, too. "For members only" is the name of the future. Looks like we are indeed intellectually way behind our technology...

All serious sites have it -- the FAQ page. My policies were developed in dealing with actual students: if your paper or script is good, I'll put it on Film or Theatre sites under the "subject" directory.
If you have Film website, go to Film Theory at Open Directory Project.
Theatre URL? The same -- see it on our right.
African or Ethiopian queries? webmaster, or go to one of many Sellassie WWW sites and leave it in the guest-book. The best -- use Ethiopia at Suite101, where I was an editor.
Classes at University of Alaska Fairbanks? Visit the official UAF site at Theatre Department!

InterActive
Not really. I built my pages for my own use -- classes, directing, writing and etc. and therefore I am the main user. I try to keep my virtual home clean, not as long as I can find my way in this mess, it's okay with me. I still place some commercial links (Amazon is the last survival), but I use it myself to buy books and DVDs. Yes, sometimes I reply to emails, but again, when it's an interesting exchange. Finally, both, Tripod and Yahoo, forced me to pay -- the traffic became so high that the servers would shot the pages practically everyday. I do not use my university super-computer space, because I want to keep my own control over the content. The rest of my webmaster saga is in web.vtheatre.net... vtheatre is, of course, Virtual Theatre (click an dread the theory pages).
Email Policy
Priority: enquiry about submissions and corrections.
If you want to exchange the links -- use the guestbook.
I do not use chatrooms and ICO; if you want to communicate with me, do what I do -- write. I read my email every day.

How To Use This Website
My advice to my students was -- tailor it for your own use, i.e. collect the URLs of the pages you like, bookmark them under one category, or even better (if you have your own site) -- cut&paste on one page.
Developments & Updates
I had newsletter and email lists only for Sellassie sites. If you want to see updates, you have to visit this site again. If you want to follow the logic of this site development, check my season; I know my projects usually a year ahead (directing, classes) -- of course, those are the pages to grow.
Service
Something I do without pay. From time to time I get complaints from the folks who not understand the notion of "free." There are many sites promising "free" stuff; I stay away from them. I'm free to give and you're free to turn it off. Knowledge is not free, but freedom. It's your labor and you pay.
Maintainence
I do not have special dates for redesigning the sites, I clean up and update them when I have time. Your corrections are more than welcome; please email the page URL or name of the page with the broken links report.
Advise
Start your own page. Everyone needs a home in this new cyber space.
Copyright
"Fair use" means that you do not make money out of somebody's intellectual property.
Final Note
Again, I made my sites for my own use and I use them more than anybody else. It's public and I share it with you. I intend to keep it this way.
Thanks. Anatoly, April 23, 1999
