web... business & PP (personal politics)
This is the third generation of my webpages: first was for myself, second -- for students, now -- for everybody. Nevertheless, in the same order of importance.
This was and still is my personal site(s), i.e. my own intellectual property. If I reprint anything, I ask for a permission. If I quote, it's only according to "fair use" (small segments). I try to give credits for the files I use (use the right click to view the source).
I do not exchange the links anymore; go to submit your link page and do it yourself (limited categories only -- film, theatre, writing).
I didn't have business pages (and directories like BIZ); I didn't have enough traffic to treat my pages as business. Now, I pay for servers and other services and try to get some money back (my affiliations are limited to Amazon mainly).
Why the American flag as a link to this directory? I came to this country on my own will (defected from USSR) in 1980 and it was my choice over any other countries (including the new Russia now). I grew into being at home, but 9-11 made me feel that the webpages should have an American Age at them, since the United States is under attack by every losers in the world. Too much blood was paid by the human race for centuries to get where we are today, for the simple individual rights and civil freedoms.
Look, it will take some time before I fix and rearrange the pages in my biz directories. If you are a webmaster, read Webman's Diary. Business webpages are not on the top of list of my priorities.
2003 and 2004
It will be five years in the Summer of my webbing. March 1st (my birthday), the daily traffic on theatre and film pages is around 2000 unique visitors (weekends -- half of it). The sellassie pages must have around the same number (I am not working on them; the only monitored pages are https://afronord.tripod.com/him). Somehow vtheatre.net pages are getting three time more traffic, although filmplus.org webpages I can see more often listed...
They were right; most of the traffic come from the search engines. You can can this new "cq counter" on my film pages for detailed statistics. (Geocities counter -- vtheatre.net -- is useless). Nevertheless, both types are public (at the bottom of each page) -- see for yourself.
Mostly likely I will double the traffic again before the summer (but summers are dead seasons). If so, I have to buy again the bandwich (right now I have 5G with Tripod and 20G with Yahoo -- month).
It make sense only if I can get more money from the pages. Not only the Amazon $$ (see books).
[ NB. I have no means of knowing the traffic on my dozen forums and classes. ]
Read business directories, if you have a business proposal in mind.
Some Analysis
Now I am more interested not in "unique visitors" but in "reloads" (visitors who stay with my sites). I need to get to 50:50 ratio (and in the future to have the numebr of "returns" higher.
Also, the number of "HDD" (how many bookmark my pages).
Well, this is the reason why I use so much "htmlgears" -- I need a better redirection methods within my pages.
... Perhaps, I need a business page in every directory and sub-directory: marketing is differenet for different "products" (I even separated my acting pages into three levels, but still have no "intro-intro" level for high-schoolers!)
PS. I do not have any specific policies, but you probably read a lot of them (legal notes). Or even pricing policy! Of course, it all depeds on TRAFFIC (some directory and some pages have high level, some not).
PPS. What can I say? I still struggle with the layout of my pages! Only recently I understood how much time I have to spend on my OWN templates! I started with the content-only approach and now I pay the price of redesigning the structure of pages and directories! I don't have to write about my webmaster's experience (see Webman's Diary). I only hope that the most I need for texts is in place. I do not think that I can even think about another "generation" of webdesign (some sites I see are so advanced, but I am not a programmer, or developer and won't be able to compete with them technically). The pages were, are and will be text-oriented.
All right, maybe I will do another round of updating for my meta tags...
