I still believe that we are in the midst of the greatest revolution and therefore do not fully understand the changes the Internet will make in the big history. Net is the extreme expression of so-called "Information Age" (3rd Millennium) and goes beyond a technological revolution. I am glad that I practically experience the process we dreamed about in the sixties. Then it was mostly theory and the main frame computer at the Kurchatov Institute where I interned in the nine grade became a laptop I am using now. It took one generation to get here, my generation.
If you read virtual theatre pages, you know that we are at the very first step of this evolution, which will change not only the world, but most importantly, us. Unlike the previous revolutions (Industrial Revolution was am invisible information revolution), this one is pure, about the essence of humanity. Probably the most dangerous...

In short, the "working zones" -- writing pages (including SHOWS directory, but "The Taming of Shrew" and "Oedipus05" are the last two productions I keep online). Nonfiction and plays. Time to use my web-space for my and mine only data.
More and more I use my webpages for multiple purposes (different classes) and this is getting confusing. For me, students and cyber-folks. I even had to start the new Notes directory, as if the "notes" pages I have in each sub-directory are not enough! "Notes pages" are mostly for myself -- what I have to do, what is needed, what is missing on my pages, what could be done and so on. Self-reflections. Plans. Inner monologues. Webmaster's talk...My personal "home" pages now looks like a portal! I feel that I reached the level of my competence as a webmaster. From now on I only can mess them up, the pages, ... as I do. Look at my online callendar to see the classes I teach and get on the Class List to follow the process [ my mailing list ].Well, it took me a while to understand very simple things about my own webpages! For example, that those "notes" pages are the endnotes! Or that my new headings "notes" on every page are the footnotes. They are pages nevertheless! What about my "sidetalking" -- the comments you see on the right? "Pages within pages"?
I call them "service" pages, to help me and you to use the "content" (subject) pages. When I began I didn't have them... Maybe better to send you to the Web directory, where I keep my webbing experience records.
So, what's up? Redesigned the index page for each directory. All directories have service pages -- Notes, Intro, Help, in addition to Index. More "incerts" like FN help: Plans for 2004: I am not putting anymore links htmlgears, or graphics. I am about to go over 5G/month for the rest of the year (and most likely ever after).... New Film Acting pages (six) are not listed yet. They all are in different directories -- two are in Biomechanics (dynamics of camera action), one is in Method Acting -- text, subtext and pre-text ("acting in pauses), one -- in film directing (Actors).
Of course, when I say "webpage" it's very often means a "chapter"...
To Myself:
Semiotics IntroWhat Directories to list for the floating frame? [Remove Theatre Directories!]
Popup Window = Film-North banner! Use new banners! Link to yourself!
What are the "incentives" for readers of film and theatre pages? Game? See Hamlet 2002: webshow (not ready yet). Maybe, the web-directing will work.
Originally, as I said, I had "notes" pages for myself (as you can see); for what is missing, what needs work and etc. I hope the new HTMLgears I place everywhere could serve for better systematic navigation. Also, I am ending each page with SUMMARY, NOTES, QUESTIONS, HOMEWORK and NEXT sections (for students).
I made many service pages, like FAQ, References, appendix and so on to free the content pages. I do not have a newletter, ezine, or mailing list; if you want to follow the changes, get on Directors Forum, I post updates there.
Overview:Let me repeat myself (from Film600 and script.vtheatre.net):
Where teaching and studying (research) meet --
Theme-thought, according to different playwrights (Shakespeare, Ibsen, Strindberg, Chekhov and so on) and directors (Fellini, Kurosawa, Tarkovsky, Bergman pages).
Connections with other themes (list): family, gender and sex...
Finally, my own practical investigations: shows.vtheatre.net (only recently I began to make themes pages, Don Juan 2003, for example).
And the nonfiction (writing), of course: HIM, Father-Russia, PostAmeriKa, Self, POV, Tech (gatepages are in WRITE directory).
Yeah, yeah, there is more -- "philo" pages, metaphysics: in theatre theory directory, for instance (topics-bar: space, time and etc.)
Plus, Virtual Theatre and Book of Spectator!Web? Oh, this is just medium. Like stage, screen, writing...
A few years ago I decided to reorganize the webpages into web-books _ I am still not sure how this new format looks like. Two of us (writer and webmaster) keep changing things as we go; I teach a class -- I update the pages (before, during and after). I direct a show -- the same. Where will this online writing take me?
I don't know. I hope the books will be born, but when?
... What to do about the unkowns? I try not to think about it. The webbing became a part of my life, perhaps a style of living.
Do I write more than before? I write every day, because my sites are nothing but the content -- I have nothing to sell, no products, no company behind. Nevertheless, I am a publisher.
I was a journalist and an editor since I was twenty (small papers in Moscow) -- and at the end of my life I am to die as a publisher?..
Or a broadcaster?
Why do I do it, if I am not making living on it?
Vanity?
[ I must finish this thought. ]
WEB-CREDO: In what way my webpages could be useful = the manner I myself use them. I keep my notes, the important stuff I have to remember when I teach, direct or write. About Chekhov or Stanislavsky, Sophocles or Brecht, the principles and thoughts that need constant attention because they have no final answers, but endless questioning....Long ago Hegel said that "truth is a process" and I believe that being is becoming. So, I place some notes (and quotes -- to stimulate myself), something to remind me what is in focus, to help myself to stay focused... If reading those pages can help you as well, great. If not, fine. It helps me.
I try to limit myself, to the same names, the same titles. I believe that reading Shakespeare ten times is better experience than reading 10 new unknown plays. My webpages evolve without any specific plans, I made them and I work on them on the "need only" basis. You see, I do not have a "situation" page, I deal with this construct daily -- in class, on stage, on page... For actors, directors, writers? For myself!
Do I understand (dramatic) "situation"? Maybe more than my students... Well, I write it only to explain why I have my webpages and have so many. To explain what you can expect from the pages and me.
